The Flash Review: The End of the Snyder-Verse

The Flash Review: The End of the Snyder-Verse

So, we saw the Flash and we were kinda intrigued by it…

This is a Spoiler-FREE Review. We will provide a short synopsis of the story, our opinions, a rating and off course answer the question. Should you go watch it?

The Flash is about Barry Allen and his decision to alter the past, saving his mother.

He was introduced in the movie Justice League, when Bruce, the Batman, found him and asked his assistance to join the League he was assembling. Ever since the Flash was an active member of the Justice League and that is when the movie starts. We are in the last movie of “The Snyderverse”.

The Flash: Synopsis

Barry finds out about the speedforce, while he was trying to deal with the pain of the loss of his mother and the unfair imprisonment of his father. While discovering the Speedforce by running extremely fast, even faster than the speed of light, he figures out a way to travel back in time! Time-Travel is extremely dangerous and leads to serious paradoxes, because changing one thing can cause the destruction of the current world. Erasing it and altering the events.

The Flash, Barry Allen, thought he found a loophole, so he did it anyway. He traveled back in time and changed one small thing. But, even the slightest change can alter the events of history. As we saw from the trailer, nothing is as Barry remembers. While Barry had an unexpected accident, causing him to exit the speedforce some years before he was meant to. He meets himself in this timeline! Zod is coming to Earth as he did in the movie Man of Steel. Only this time, there is no Superman! The Batman is different, with the actor Michael Keaton returning as the batman on the big screen… From that point onwards we see Barry as he tries to solve this big mess he created, only by saving his mother…

The movie tries its best to create a plot with emotional background and morale, about leaving the past behind and focusing on the future. With a mix of nostalgia, bringing back beloved actors, and similar events from the past movies. But does it succeed?

In some extend yes, it does. If you are willing to watch the movie for what it offers. While not getting affected by the outside drama that this movie was surrounded with.

The Events around the production of the Flash

The allegations of Ezra Miller

The Movie had a lot of issues, even before its production. With events outside of it bringing negativity and a bad image overall. Ezra Miller and the allegations against him put Warner Bros and DC in a very difficult position. While many asked to fire the actor, DC decided not to. That brought a lot of negativity around the production of the movie and many still wonder why Ezra Miller remained starring in the film.

Nevertheless, DC decided that the Flash was going to reboot the universe, so I guess it didn’t matter much to them. But another good point is, that the production and the scenes were already been shot. Recasting the role as the Flash would cost them a lot.

The Movie is out and I have to say, that ignoring what Ezra Miller had done in real life. He delivered a spectacular performance as the scarlet speedster.

The cancellation of the Snyder-Verse.

A couple of years back we got to witness the “Zaxk Snyder’s Justice League”. A movie that many would characterize as masterpiece. This was the vision of Zack Snyder, the former producer of DCU movies. As he directed “Man of Steel” which introduced us to Henry Cavil’s Superman, later “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the “Justice League” which he exited in the post-production state as he had to deal with the death of his daughter. His replacement Joss Wheton delivered a Justice League that was harshly critisized by fans!

DC had a lot of issues with their Universe. It failed to reach Marvel’s success in the Cinamatic department and was experiencing many losses in the box offices, with very low reviews on their movies. For years, everyone was feeling that DC was not at the same level as Marvel. So, after disappointing box offices, bad scripts, even worse marketing and a lot of controversy around the films, were more than enough reasons for DC to decide for a clean restart. Canceling the Universe that Zack Snyder envisioned. Something that left a lot of fans disappointed and angry with that decision, as the Zack Snyder’s Justice League was a phenomenal movie!

With James Gunn leading as CO-CEO of the DC’s future projects in the DCU. The Flash is the last of the Snyderverse movies…

Why would someone watch the Flash?

The Flash, ‘failed’ in the box office, and as it seems, it will not be a profitable movie for Warner Bros and DC.

Why would someone watch a movie about a canceled universe after all?

They tried to promote it as best as they could, by saying that it will be the reason for the reboot. The Flashpoint will restart the universe.

Is this the sole reason to watch a whole 2 hours and 24 mins movie? No!

Going to the cinema to watch the reboot of the universe will leave you disappointed! The Flash is not about the end of the Snyder-verse. It is about the Flash, Barry Allen and his character. His issues and everyday struggles. And most of all, about his grief at losing his mother. Batman is there because of the similarities of those characters in their backstory.

Batman lost his parents and that made him a vigilante, fighting crime and becoming the incarnation of Vengeance, so that no one else should experience what he had. While the Flash had similar reasons, his ability made him capable to go back in time and ‘fix’ it.

Is this though, the correct decision? We cannot go back in time and ‘fix’ what we couldn’t then. We have to improve and be better for a better future! This is the morale that the movie tried to pass.

Rating

The movie is NOT a Masterpiece, but it isn’t bad either!

Depending on your taste this movie is around 7/10 to 8/10… Its box office and earrings so far do not show that, but I actually enjoyed this movie. It has flaws for sure! Especially the CGI in some scenes! At some point I felt that the CGI was unnecessary. But, it did its best to represent what it was trying to do and the vision of the director.

The Flash Official Trailer

Should you watch it?

Why not,

Overall it is an interesting script and not a bad result. A Movie about loss and with an important meaning behind a superhero and much action!

But I have to say that it is NOT for everyone. You might struggle to understand it if you are not familiar with DC’s previous movies, such as the Man of Steel!

The future of DC is interesting and exciting.

As a DC fan I am interested to see what James Gunn is going to deliver.
